Learn to make Japchae-watch or cook along!
What is japchae?
Japchae (잡채) means “mixed vegetables.” The main ingredient of this classic dish is Korean sweet potato starch noodles (dangmyeon, 당면), also known as glass noodles. Japchae is an essential dish for traditional holidays and special occasions.
Join Acton Memorial Library as we welcome Younhee Shin who will walk us through all the steps to prepare japchae, a delicious and authentic Korean dish, on Zoom.
Register for the program. You will recieve a zoom link and a handout with a recipe handout via email.
In order to Cook along:
- Purchase the ingredients listed in the recipe handout.
- Just prior to the program at 5pm on Feb 4th, wash the vegetables. That's all the preparation you need to do ahead of time
The recipe handout you will receive in your confirmation email incudes links to purchase specialized items online. If you'd like to shop locally (ish), here are a couple of shops where the more specialized ingredients off the japchae recipe list are likely to be available:
- New Oriental Supermarket in Littleton: https://www.yelp.com/biz/new-oriental-supermarket-littleton
- Hmart in Burlington or Cambridge: https://www.hmart.com/ourstores
- The highly anticipated Acton Asian Market will hopefully be opening its doors soon, perhaps in the next week or so (NOT OPEN YET as of January 11): https://www.facebook.com/ActonAsianMarketTeam/
This program was sponsored by the Acton Memorial Library Foundation.
Registration for this event has now closed.
