If you think you know the history of West Acton Village, don’t “think again”… come join us for this fascinating inaugural walking tour of the Village. The tour will begin at the historic West Acton Citizens Library at 21 Windsor Avenue at 11:00 AM and will end before 1:00 PM. Advance registration is required at https://tinyurl.com/westacton-june13.
Every block of West Acton Village has an interesting history. Important 19th century influences allowed residential, commercial and manufacturing to thrive. The arrival of the Fitchburg railroad (1845) with a depot in the center of town, opened up agricultural, commercial, and travel opportunities, What we observe today is only the tip of the historical iceberg. We had Universalist, Baptist, Catholic and Christian Science churches; blacksmiths, wagonmakers, a cigar manufacturer, and coopers (butter churns) – West Acton is the epitome of a small “village” with a great history.
Tour leader Richard Hilton has been creating and leading walking tours for 25 years. He developed and leads a current tour of the Boxborough New Town Center and is also an interpreter at the Robbins House Museum in Concord. He has a passion for learning and sharing local history.
